Pain Management
My
office uses a combination of massage, acupuncture, herbal patches, far
infrared light, herbal prescription, dietary changes, Qi Gong exercises
and things to do at home to treat your pain in a comprehensive fashion.
How Long Does It Take To Work?
Of course, I would love it if acupuncture worked like magic to instantly remove your pain; however, realistically, my goal is to reduce your pain during, or within a day of the first visit, at least to some degree. This tells me acupuncture can help you. If acupuncture has not changed your pain levels at all by treatment 3 for acute (recent) injuries, and by 6 visits for chronic (long-standing) pain, then acupuncture may not be for you (or at least not this acupuncturist!).
What Can I Expect?
Expect to receive some form of treatment with either acupuncture (preferably), or magnets. I may prescribe massage 30 minutes in advance of the treatment to improve the outcome. An herbal patch may be applied, your diet may be slightly altered, and I may prescribe herbs or nutraceuticals, the taking of which will very much improve the outcome of the treatment. Exercise, stretching, meditation, and lifestyle modifications may also be prescribed.
How Often Will I Be Treated?
Natural medicine works because it stimulates your own ability to heal, and the more stimulation the better. In China, people are treated daily until they get better, and this works very well for them. The more treatment you can receive right from the beginning, the better. I will expect to see you two to three visits a week for the first one to three weeks. The frequency will taper as you heal. The total length of treatment will be determined by your individual case and response to the healing process.
