Baked Chinese Pears

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, during the Fall we need to protect our lungs from dryness.  To do this, we use foods that are both moistening and that have a powerful affinity for the lungs.  The following recipe is a delicious dessert that uses herbs known by Traditional Chinese Medicine to strongly moisten and nourish the lungs and to protect against dryness.  During early Fall (or whenever it feels dryest where you live) I recommend you eat this food once a week to stave off dryness, or daily for several days if you suffer from a dry cough.

Makes 6 Servings

Ingredients:
3 Large Chinese Pears (you may use other types of pears, but with less medicinal effect)
3 Tbsp Raw Honey
1 Cup chopped Walnuts
1 Tbsp powdered Ginger or crystallized Ginger

Instructions:
Mix honey, ginger and walnuts.  Cut the pears in half from top to bottom. Core them, and fill the cavity with the mixture.  Much like you would fill a deviled egg.  Place the pears in a baking pan and add water until it comes about halfway up the pears.  Cook at 375 for 45 minutes, or until the pears are cooked (being careful not to cook them to the point that they shrivel or crumple in on themselves).
