The Ten Sleep Blockers Sabotaging Your Nights (And Why You Can’t Fix Them Alone)

9/2/2026

You’re Not Broken — You’re Blocked

skool.com/craigswoggerhq

If you’ve been struggling with sleep for months or years, you’ve probably tried everything: supplements, routines, meditation, stretching, blue‑light blockers, sleep hygiene, apps, trackers, teas, and tips.

And yet… your sleep still feels unpredictable. Your nights still feel fragile. Your body still refuses to cooperate.

It’s not because you’re doing it wrong. It’s because you’re fighting something you can’t see.

Most people don’t have a “sleep problem.” They have Sleep Blockers — hidden mechanisms inside the nervous system, environment, and circadian machinery that prevent the brain from entering sleep mode.

These blockers override your routines. They sabotage your supplements. They make your body behave like it’s under threat.

And until they’re removed, sleep will always feel harder than it should.

What a Sleep Blocker Actually Is

A Sleep Blocker is any mechanism — biological, environmental, neurological, or psychological — that interferes with your nervous system’s ability to shift into sleep mode.

You can think of them as invisible friction points. They don’t just make sleep difficult. They make sleep impossible.

And here’s the part most people never realize:  You can have multiple Sleep Blockers at the same time.

This is why sleep feels so confusing. This is why tips don’t work. This is why routines fail. This is why exhaustion doesn’t lead to sleep.

You’re not dealing with one problem. You’re dealing with a system of blockers.

The Ten Domains of Sleep Blockers

The HQ Sleep system identifies ten Sleep Blockers — not one, not three, not five.

Ten.

Each one represents a domain where sleep can break down. These are not the blockers themselves — those are revealed inside the course — but these are the categories where they live:
  • Environmental Blockers — signals in your room that disrupt safety or predictability.
  • Behavioral Blockers — patterns that confuse your nervous system.
  • Physiological Blockers — chemistry and body‑state issues that prevent downshifting.
  • Neurological Blockers — activation patterns that keep the brain in vigilance.
  • Circadian Blockers — misalignment between your internal clock and your lifestyle.
  • Cognitive Blockers — mental loops that keep the brain from releasing control.
  • Stress‑Induced Blockers — unresolved activation carried into the night.
  • Evolutionary Mismatch Blockers — modern signals your nervous system interprets as threat.
  • Metabolic Blockers -  hormonal and digestive system signals that override the need to rest.
  • Nervous System Blockers — deep‑level activation that overrides all routines.
These domains create the perfect storm. They interact. They compound. They reinforce each other.

This is why sleep feels so complicated. This is why nothing you try seems to work. This is why you feel stuck.

Why You Can’t Fix Them Alone

You can’t fix what you can’t see. You can’t fix what you misdiagnose. You can’t fix what you don’t understand.

Most people try random sleep tips — but tips don’t remove blockers. They’re surface‑level. They’re optional. They’re helpful, but they don’t change the underlying machinery.

Removing Sleep Blockers requires a protocol. Not a collection of suggestions.

The Real Reason You’re Still Struggling

Your sleep isn’t broken. Your sleep triggers are.
Once the Sleep Blockers are removed:
  • your nervous system shifts automatically
  • your environment starts working for you
  • your circadian rhythm realigns
  • your body softens without effort
  • your mind quiets naturally
  • sleep becomes predictable and effortless
Your biology returns to the rhythm it was designed for.

The Next Step

If you want the actual step‑by‑step protocol to identify and remove all ten Sleep Blockers — and restore the natural sleep triggers your nervous system still depends on — join HQ Sleep inside my Skool community at skool.com/craigswoggerhq

It’s the full system. Not just the theory.

Your sleep isn’t failing. It’s blocked. HQ Sleep removes those blocks.

Why You Feel Sleepy at the Wrong Time — The Circadian Mismatch Problem

9/2/2026

When Sleepiness Shows Up at the Worst Possible Time
skool.com/craigswoggerhq

You know the pattern. You feel sleepy in the afternoon when you need to be alert. You feel wired at night when you need to wind down. You get a burst of energy right before bed. You feel foggy in the morning even after a full night in bed.

It feels like your sleepiness is on its own schedule — one that doesn’t match your life.

This isn’t random. It’s circadian mismatch.

Your Circadian System Is Ancient — Your Lifestyle Is Modern

Your circadian rhythm is a 24‑hour biological clock that evolved long before electricity, screens, nightlife, shift work, and modern stress.

For most of human history, your circadian system was synchronized by:
  • sunrise
  • sunset
  • temperature shifts
  • predictable daily activity
  • stable environmental cues
These signals told your nervous system exactly when to be alert and exactly when to wind down.

Today, those signals are scrambled.

The Modern World Sends Mixed Signals

Your circadian rhythm is constantly being pushed, pulled, and confused by:
  • artificial light at night
  • bright screens after sunset
  • irregular sleep schedules
  • inconsistent wake times
  • unpredictable eating patterns
  • chaotic daily stress
  • indoor living with minimal natural light
Your nervous system doesn’t know when the day begins or ends. So it guesses.
And it often guesses wrong.

The Result: Sleepiness at the Wrong Time

When your circadian rhythm is misaligned, you experience:
  • afternoon crashes
  • nighttime alertness
  • difficulty waking up
  • inconsistent energy
  • unpredictable sleepiness
  • early‑evening fatigue
  • late‑night stimulation
Your sleepiness becomes disconnected from your actual needs.

The Evolutionary Mismatch

Your circadian machinery was designed for a world with:
  • total darkness at night
  • bright natural light during the day
  • consistent daily rhythms
  • predictable environmental cues
Your modern environment doesn’t provide these signals. It provides the opposite.

This mismatch creates Sleep Blockers — hidden mechanisms that prevent your circadian system from aligning with your life.

Why You Can’t Fix This With Tips

You can’t fix circadian mismatch by:
  • dimming the lights
  • drinking tea
  • stretching
  • meditating
  • journaling
These tools are helpful, but they don’t realign the circadian machinery.

Circadian alignment requires removing the blockers that are disrupting your internal clock.

The Real Reason Your Sleepiness Is Off‑Schedule

Your circadian rhythm isn’t broken. It’s confused.

Your nervous system is receiving:
  • daytime signals at night
  • nighttime signals during the day
  • stress signals at random
  • light signals that contradict biology
Once the Sleep Blockers are removed:
  • your sleepiness returns to the right time
  • your energy becomes predictable
  • your mornings feel easier
  • your nights feel calmer
  • your sleep becomes automatic
Your circadian rhythm finally syncs with your life.

The Next Step

If you want the actual step‑by‑step protocol to remove the Sleep Blockers and realign your circadian system so sleepiness shows up at the right time, join HQ Sleep inside my Skool community at skool.com/craigswoggerhq.

It’s the full system — not just the theory.

Your circadian rhythm isn’t failing. It’s blocked. HQ Sleep restores it.

Why Your Bedroom Doesn’t Feel Safe to Your Nervous System

9/2/2026

You Think Your Bedroom Is Calm — Your Nervous System Disagrees

skool.com/craigswoggerhq

You walk into your bedroom at night expecting it to feel peaceful. It’s quiet. It’s dim. It’s familiar. You’ve done everything right.

But your body doesn’t soften. Your mind doesn’t quiet. Your nervous system doesn’t shift.

It’s as if your bedroom isn’t sending the “safe” signal your brain needs to fall asleep.

And that’s exactly what’s happening.

Sleep Only Happens When the Nervous System Feels Safe

For most of human history, sleep was automatic because the environment made it automatic. Our ancestors slept in conditions that reliably told the nervous system:

You are protected. You can let go.
Those signals were unmistakable:
  • predictable darkness
  • stable temperature
  • familiar sounds
  • the presence of the tribe
  • environmental consistency
These cues flipped the switch from vigilance to restoration.

Your bedroom today doesn’t send those cues — not consistently, and not deeply enough.

The Modern Bedroom Is Full of “Micro‑Threats”

Your mind knows your bedroom is safe. Your nervous system doesn’t.

It responds to:
  • unpredictable noise (cars, neighbors, HVAC cycles)
  • artificial light (LEDs, chargers, streetlights)
  • digital stimulation (phones, TVs, notifications)
  • environmental inconsistency (temperature swings, light leaks)
  • emotional residue (stress carried into the room)
These signals don’t feel dangerous. But they feel unpredictable.
And unpredictability is the enemy of sleep.

The Evolutionary Mismatch

Your nervous system is ancient. Your bedroom is modern.

Your brain evolved to sleep in environments where:
  • darkness was total
  • noise was natural and consistent
  • social presence meant safety
  • nighttime meant stillness
Your bedroom, even when optimized, doesn’t replicate those conditions.
This mismatch creates Sleep Blockers — hidden mechanisms that keep your nervous system from entering sleep mode.

Why You Can’t “Convince” Your Nervous System to Relax

You can’t talk your way into safety. You can’t meditate your way into safety. You can’t stretch your way into safety.

Safety is a signal, not a thought.

Your nervous system needs:
  • environmental cues
  • circadian alignment
  • predictable sensory input
  • lowered threat chemistry
  • nervous system downshifting
Without these, your bedroom becomes a place where your body stays alert — even if your mind feels calm.

The Real Reason Your Bedroom Doesn’t Work

Your bedroom isn’t failing. Your sleep triggers are.

The Sleep Blockers override your environment, no matter how well you’ve designed it.

Once the blockers are removed:
  • your bedroom starts to feel safe
  • your body softens automatically
  • your mind quiets without effort
  • sleep becomes predictable and effortless
Your nervous system finally recognizes nighttime as a period of restoration.

The Next Step

If you want the actual step-by-step protocol to remove the Sleep Blockers and rebuild the environmental and nervous system triggers that make your bedroom feel truly safe, join HQ Sleep inside my Skool community at skool.com/craigswoggerhq.

It’s the full system — not just the theory.

Your bedroom isn’t the problem. Your sleep triggers are. HQ Sleep restores them.

The Hidden War Between Your Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Systems at Night

9/2/2026

The Battle You Never See — But Always Feel

skool.com/craigswoggerhq

You lie down at night hoping for rest, but instead you feel wired, alert, restless, or tense. Your mind races. Your body won’t soften. You can’t drop into sleep, even when you’re exhausted.

This isn’t a failure of willpower. It’s a nervous system conflict.

Inside your body, two ancient systems are fighting for control:
  • the sympathetic system (fight, flight, vigilance)
  • the parasympathetic system (rest, digest, sleep)
Sleep only happens when the parasympathetic system wins. But for many people, the sympathetic system refuses to step down.

Why the Sympathetic System Dominates at Night

Your sympathetic system isn’t activated because you’re weak, stressed, or dramatic. It’s activated because your nervous system is interpreting your environment and your internal chemistry as unsafe.

This can happen even when your mind feels calm. Your body responds to:
  • unpredictable noise
  • artificial light
  • unresolved stress
  • emotional conflict
  • digital stimulation
  • circadian disruption
  • environmental mismatch
These signals tell your nervous system: Stay alert. Don’t let your guard down.
And if your body believes that, sleep becomes impossible.

The Parasympathetic System Can’t Compete Without Help

Your parasympathetic system is responsible for:
  • slowing your heart rate
  • lowering cortisol
  • relaxing muscles
  • quieting the mind
  • preparing the body for sleep
But it can’t activate fully when the sympathetic system is still running the show.

This is why you can:
  • meditate and still feel wired
  • breathe deeply and still feel tense
  • stretch and still feel restless
  • dim the lights and still feel alert
Your body isn’t ignoring your efforts. It’s protecting you.

The Evolutionary Mismatch

For most of human history, nighttime meant safety. Darkness was predictable. The tribe was close. The environment was stable. The nervous system trusted the world enough to let go.

Today, your brain is living in a world it wasn’t designed for:
  • bright screens
  • chaotic noise
  • constant stimulation
  • social pressure
  • chronic stress
  • artificial environments
Your sympathetic system interprets these modern signals as threat. Your parasympathetic system never gets the chance to take over.

This mismatch creates Sleep Blockers — hidden mechanisms that keep your nervous system stuck in vigilance.

Why You Can’t Fix This With Tips

You can’t force the parasympathetic system to activate. You have to remove what’s blocking it.

This is why sleep hygiene, meditation, stretching, journaling, and breathing exercises often fail. They’re helpful, but they don’t address the deeper blockers.
Until the blockers are removed, your sympathetic system will continue to dominate at night.

The Real Fix

Once the Sleep Blockers are removed:
  • your sympathetic system finally steps down
  • your parasympathetic system activates automatically
  • your body softens without effort
  • your mind quiets naturally
  • sleep becomes predictable and effortless
Your nervous system returns to its natural rhythm — the one it was designed for.

The Next Step

If you want the actual step-by-step protocol to remove the Sleep Blockers and restore the parasympathetic dominance your body needs for deep sleep, join HQ Sleep inside my Skool community at skool.com/craigswoggerhq.

It’s the full system — not just the theory.

Why Sleep Hygiene Doesn’t Work for Most People

9/2/2026

The Myth That Keeps You Stuck

skool.com/craigswoggerhq

Sleep hygiene is the most common advice people receive when they say they can’t sleep. Dim the lights. Avoid screens. Keep your room cool. Don’t drink caffeine late. Build a routine. Meditate. Stretch. Journal.

These tips are helpful — but they rarely fix anything.

If you’ve tried sleep hygiene and your sleep still feels unpredictable, fragile, or frustrating, it’s not because you’re doing it wrong. It’s because sleep hygiene was never designed to fix the real problem.

Sleep Hygiene Is Surface-Level

Sleep hygiene works only when the underlying sleep machinery is already functioning correctly. It’s like polishing a car that has no engine. You can make it look better, but it won’t take you anywhere.

Most people don’t have a “sleep hygiene problem.” They have Sleep Blockers — hidden mechanisms inside the nervous system, environment, and circadian system that prevent the brain from entering sleep mode.

Until those blockers are removed, no amount of hygiene will create real sleep.

The Nervous System Doesn’t Respond to Tips

Your nervous system cares about your routine.  But it cares more about:
  • safety
  • predictability
  • environmental cues
  • threat levels
  • internal chemistry
  • circadian alignment
If any of these systems are disrupted, your brain will override your routine and keep you awake.

This is why you can:
  • meditate and still feel wired
  • dim the lights and still feel alert
  • avoid screens and still feel restless
  • stretch and still feel tense
Your body isn’t ignoring your efforts — it’s protecting you from something it thinks is dangerous.

The Evolutionary Mismatch

For most of human history, sleep was automatic. Our environments triggered it. Darkness and a fire meant safety. Stillness meant protection. The tribe was close. The night was predictable.

Today, your brain is living in a world it wasn’t designed for:
  • artificial light
  • unpredictable noise
  • chronic stress
  • digital stimulation
  • environmental chaos
Sleep hygiene tries to imitate the old world, but it doesn’t recreate the deeper triggers your nervous system needs.

Why Sleep Hygiene Fails

Sleep hygiene fails because it doesn’t address the root causes:
  • nervous system hyperactivation
  • circadian misalignment
  • environmental mismatch
  • evolutionary threat responses
  • internal chemistry imbalance
  • subconscious safety cues
These are the Sleep Blockers — and until they’re removed, sleep will always feel harder than it should.

You Don’t Need More Tips — You Need a System

Sleep hygiene is a collection of suggestions. HQ Sleep is a protocol.
Sleep hygiene is optional. HQ Sleep is foundational.
Sleep hygiene is helpful. HQ Sleep is transformative.

The Next Step

If you want the actual step-by-step protocol to remove the Sleep Blockers and restore your natural sleep triggers, join HQ Sleep inside my Skool community at skool.com/craigswoggerhq.

The Evolutionary Reason You Wake Up at 3 AM

9/2/2026

The Wake‑Up You Can’t Explain

skool.com/craigswoggerhq

It’s always around the same time. You open your eyes. You feel alert. Your mind switches on. Your body feels like it’s preparing for something.

You didn’t choose to wake up. Your nervous system did.

And it’s not random. It’s ancient.

The 3 AM Activation

For most of human history, nighttime wasn’t just rest. It was vulnerability.
Darkness meant:
  • predators
  • environmental threats
  • rival tribes
  • unstable weather
  • the unknown
Our ancestors slept in groups, not alone. And even then, someone was always half‑awake — a rotating vigilance built into the tribe.

Your nervous system still carries that architecture.

Around 3 AM, your body enters a natural checkpoint — a moment where the brain briefly scans for threat.

If everything feels safe, you drift back into deep sleep. If something feels off — even subtly — you wake up.

What “Feels Off” Today

Your brain isn’t waking you because of predators. It’s waking you because of modern signals it interprets as threat:
  • unresolved stress
  • emotional conflict
  • elevated cortisol
  • circadian misalignment
  • environmental noise
  • artificial light exposure
  • nervous system hyperactivation
These aren’t real threats. But your nervous system doesn’t know that. It only knows chemistry and cues.

If your internal state resembles vigilance, your brain triggers the ancient wake‑up protocol.

The Evolutionary Mismatch

Your nervous system is ancient. Your environment is modern. This mismatch creates Sleep Blockers — hidden mechanisms that keep your brain from staying asleep.

The 3 AM wake‑up is one of the clearest signs that your nervous system is:
  • scanning
  • protecting
  • anticipating
  • bracing
It’s doing its job. Just at the wrong time.

Why You Can’t Fix This With Tips

You can’t breathe your way out of an evolutionary mismatch. You can’t stretch your way out of a threat response. You can’t journal your way out of nervous system hyperactivation.

These tools are helpful. But they don’t remove the blockers.

Your brain isn’t waking you because you lack discipline. It’s waking you because your sleep triggers aren’t aligned with the world you live in.

The Real Fix

Once the Sleep Blockers are removed:
  • your nervous system stops scanning at night
  • your brain stops interpreting modern cues as threat
  • your sleep becomes continuous
  • the 3 AM wake‑up disappears
Your body returns to its natural rhythm — the one it was designed for.

The Next Step

If you want the actual step‑by‑step protocol to remove the Sleep Blockers and restore the ancient sleep triggers your nervous system still depends on, join HQ Sleep inside my Skool community at skool.com/craigswoggerhq.

It’s the full system — not just the theory.

Your 3 AM wake‑up isn’t random. It’s a signal. HQ Sleep teaches you how to turn it off.

Why Your Brain Doesn’t Trust Your Nighttime Routine

9/2/2026

The Routine Isn’t the Problem — The Nervous System Is

skool.com/craigswoggerhq

You’ve built the perfect nighttime routine. The lights are low. The screens are off. The tea is warm. The room is cool. You stretch, breathe, journal, meditate, or read. You do everything the sleep experts say.

And yet… your brain doesn’t settle. Your body doesn’t soften. Your mind doesn’t shift into sleep mode.

It feels like your routine isn’t landing — like your nervous system is ignoring it.

That’s because it is. Your brain doesn’t trust your nighttime routine. Not yet.

Sleep Isn’t Triggered by Ritual — It’s Triggered by Safety

For most of human history, sleep was automatic. We didn’t “prepare” for sleep.

We didn’t “optimize” it. We didn’t “try” to fall asleep.

Sleep happened because the environment told the nervous system: You are safe now. You can let go.

The signals were unmistakable:
  • predictable darkness
  • stable temperature
  • familiar sounds
  • the presence of the tribe
  • the absence of threat
These cues flipped the switch from vigilance to restoration.

Today, your nighttime routine tries to imitate calm — but your nervous system doesn’t believe it.

Your Brain Remembers the Whole Day

Your routine lasts 30 minutes. Your nervous system remembers the last 16 hours.
If your day was:
  • stressful
  • overstimulating
  • unpredictable
  • socially intense
  • emotionally charged
  • filled with artificial light
  • packed with digital stimulation
…your nervous system carries that state into the night.

A routine can’t override a full day of sympathetic activation. It’s like whispering “relax” to someone who’s been running from a threat.

Your brain isn’t resisting sleep — it’s protecting you.

The Evolutionary Mismatch

Your nighttime routine is modern. Your nervous system is ancient.
It doesn’t respond to:
  • candles
  • herbal tea
  • stretching
  • journaling
  • meditation apps
It responds to:
  • environmental safety
  • predictable cues
  • circadian alignment
  • nervous system downshifting
  • threat removal
If these deeper systems aren’t addressed, your routine becomes a performance — not a trigger.

The Real Reason Your Routine Fails

Your routine fails because it’s trying to add calm on top of an already activated system.

But sleep isn’t created by adding calm. Sleep is created by removing blockers.

These blockers are the hidden mechanisms that keep your nervous system from entering sleep mode. They override your routine, no matter how perfect it is.

Until the blockers are removed, your brain will continue to treat nighttime as a period of vigilance instead of restoration.

You Don’t Need a Better Routine — You Need a Nervous System That Trusts It

Once the Sleep Blockers are removed:
  • your routine starts working
  • your body softens automatically
  • your mind quiets without effort
  • your sleep becomes predictable
Your brain finally recognizes nighttime as safe. And sleep becomes what it’s supposed to be: automatic.

The Next Step

If you want the actual step-by-step protocol to remove the Sleep Blockers and rebuild the environmental and nervous system triggers that make your routine work, join HQ Sleep inside my Skool community at skool.com/craigswoggerhq.

It’s the full system — not just the theory.

Why You Still Can’t Sleep Even After Trying Everything

9/2/2026

The Frustration You Don’t Deserve

skool.com/craigswoggerhq

You’ve tried the melatonin. The magnesium. The blue‑light blockers. The nighttime routine. The meditation apps. The supplements with names that sound like spells. You’ve dimmed the lights, cooled the room, and sworn off screens after 9 PM.

And yet… you still can’t sleep.

If you’re honest, this is the part that hurts the most: the feeling that you’ve done everything “right,” but your body refuses to cooperate. It’s not laziness. It’s not lack of discipline. It’s not ignorance.

It’s something deeper.

The Hidden Mechanisms Running the Show

Most people don’t have a “sleep problem.” They have Sleep Blockers — hidden mechanisms inside the nervous system, environment, and circadian machinery that prevent the brain from entering sleep mode.

These blockers operate beneath your awareness. They override your routines. They sabotage your supplements. They make your body behave like it’s under threat, even when your mind feels calm.

This is why you can be exhausted and still unable to fall asleep. This is why you can wake up at 3 AM with your heart racing. This is why your sleep feels unpredictable, fragile, or inconsistent.

You’re not broken. You’re blocked.

Why Tips Don’t Work

Sleep tips are surface‑level. They’re helpful, but they don’t remove the underlying blockers. It’s like trying to fix a flooded basement by buying nicer towels.
You can:
  • dim the lights
  • meditate
  • avoid caffeine
  • stretch
  • breathe
  • journal
…but if your nervous system is still running the wrong program, none of it sticks.
Your body isn’t resisting sleep — it’s protecting you from something it thinks is dangerous.

The Evolutionary Mismatch

For most of human history, sleep was automatic. Our environments triggered it. Our nervous systems trusted the world around us. Darkness meant safety. Stillness meant protection. The tribe was close. The fire was warm. The night was predictable.

Today, your brain is living in a world it wasn’t designed for:
  • artificial light
  • unpredictable noise
  • chronic stress
  • digital stimulation
  • social pressure
  • environmental signals that feel chaotic
Your nervous system is trying to sleep in a world that doesn’t feel safe.

This mismatch creates Sleep Blockers — and until they’re removed, sleep will always feel harder than it should.

You Haven’t Failed — You’ve Been Fighting Blind

If you’ve tried everything and nothing has worked, it’s not because you’re doing it wrong. It’s because you’re trying to fix sleep without addressing the blockers.
Once the blockers are removed, sleep becomes what it’s supposed to be:
  • automatic
  • predictable
  • effortless
  • trustworthy
Your body already knows how to sleep. It’s built into your biology. You just need to clear the mechanisms that are interfering with it.

The Next Step

If you want the actual step‑by‑step protocol to remove the Sleep Blockers and restore your natural sleep triggers, join HQ Sleep inside my Skool community at skool.com/craigswoggerhq.

Ever feel really good after walking barefoot in the park or along the beach, or after lying in the grass?  Have you noticed how a dip in the ocean or sitting beneath a tree can rejuvenate your body and mind, and transform that feeling of being “burned out” or “wired” into one of calm and balance?  The common factor between all of these activities is an exchange of electrical charges with the Earth, called grounding or “earthing” by the alternative health community, and it can be a powerful agent for healing.

Spring, According to traditional chinese medicine

Spring has special meaning for nature-loving cultures around the world, and Traditional Chinese Medicine is no exception.  According to TCM, Yin Qi, which dominates the winter, is now in decline, and Yang Qi is beginning to arise out of the waning Yin.  It’s akin to the sunrise coming after the darkest night.  It’s the time the energy of life bursts forth from the seemingly dead soil, and when the warmth of the sun begins to thaw the ice and cold of the winter.  It’s the time of new beginnings.

Rocket (Wild Arugula)

Rocket, sometimes called London Rocket or Wild Arugula (Sisymbrium irio), is one of several members of the Brassica family (a group of plants containing cabbages, broccoli, and mustards) growing in our region.  It is non-native, and now thrives along roads, trails, in empty lots, and waste places.  It is extremely hardy, begins growing in the cool winter months, and blossoms in early spring.  The entire plant is edible, and has also been used for its medicinal qualities.

Mallow

Mallow, AKA Cheeseweed, Little Mallow, and Marshmallow (Malva parviflora L.) is a non-native species that grows prolifically across the US, and is one of the most common plants to be found growing in the foothills around Los Angeles, and indeed in almost every yard in the city.

Baked Chinese Pears

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, during the Fall we need to protect our lungs from dryness.  To do this, we use foods that are both moistening and that have a powerful affinity for the lungs.  The following recipe is a delicious dessert that uses herbs known by Traditional Chinese Medicine to strongly moisten and nourish the lungs and to protect against dryness.  During early Fall (or whenever it feels dryest where you live) I recommend you eat this food once a week to stave off dryness, or daily for several days if you suffer from a dry cough.
