The CDC just released a study that ranks what they call Powerhouse Fruits and Vegetables (PFV). These foods contain high quantities of bio-available nutrients (nutrients you can actually absorb) shown to prevent chronic disease. To learn more about how these foods were ranked, check out the list at the CDC site. All of the foods below are considered powerhouse foods, and are ranked by nutrient density from top to bottom. Start eating more foods from this list to insure that you are getting the nutrients you need from your diet.
Watercress, Chinese cabbage, Chard, Beet green, Spinach, Chicory, Leaf lettuce, Parsley, Romaine lettuce, Collard green, Turnip green, Mustard green, Endive, Chive, Kale, Dandelion green, Red pepper, Arugula, Broccoli, Pumpkin, Brussels sprout, Scallion, Kohlrabi, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Carrot, Tomato, Lemon, Iceberg lettuce, Strawberry, Radish, Winter squash (all varieties), Orange, Lime, Grapefruit (pink and red), Rutabaga, Turnip, Blackberry, Leek, Sweet potato, Grapefruit (white).
